Digital support programme

1,000 hours, given away in 2027.

A commitment of 1,000 hours of web development, digital presence and creative work, at no cost, for businesses and organizations that could not otherwise buy it. Built accessible from the first line of code, and handed over so you own it outright.

What is included

A digital presence you own, not one you rent.

The scope is fixed so we can help more organizations rather than a few very thoroughly. What each project gets depends on what it actually needs — assessed with you, not assumed.

Web

A working website

Designed, built and deployed. Content structure, copy review, and the pages a visitor actually needs rather than the ones a template ships with.

Access

WCAG 2.2 AA from the start

Tested with a screen reader and by keyboard before it goes live. This is the part almost nobody includes, and the part that is expensive to retrofit.

Social

Social profiles set up properly

Accounts created and configured across the platforms that suit your audience, with profile copy, imagery and a posting starter plan.

Creative

Brand and promotional creative

A simple, consistent visual identity and a set of templates you can keep using — social graphics, a one-page flyer, an email signature.

Hand-over

Source files and training

Every file, every login, every editable asset transferred to you, plus a session showing your team how to run it. Nothing is held back.

Findable

Search and listings basics

Search Console set up, a sitemap submitted, and your business listed correctly where people actually look for it.

Boundaries

What this does not include.

Saying so up front is what makes the offer believable, and it is the only way 1,000 hours reaches more than a handful of organizations.

  • No ongoing maintenance. We build it and hand it over. Hosting, updates and content are yours after that, and we show you how.
  • No paid advertising management. We set the accounts up; we do not run campaigns or spend your budget.
  • No e-commerce or custom applications. Payments, booking systems and bespoke software sit outside the scope.
  • No content writing at volume. We will structure and edit what you have; we are not a copywriting agency.
  • No equity, no fee, no obligation. We take nothing, and there is no expectation that you become a client afterwards.

Why we are doing this

A small organization with an inaccessible website is excluded twice: its customers cannot use it, and the cost of fixing it later is higher than building it right would have been. Our purposes commit us to making resources reach communities that are underserved. This is that commitment with a number attached.

Where the hours come from

Surplus from our fee-for-service work, plus donated associate time. No grant funds a specific business, and no client subsidises another client's project.

Who can apply

Anyone can apply. Here is how we choose.

The programme is open to any business or organization, of any size and any sector. We assess each application on need and on what the support would actually change — not on how polished the application is.

We weigh

Whether cost is the real barrier

An organization that could commission this work and has chosen not to is a lower priority than one that genuinely cannot.

We weigh

Who is served by the work

Projects reaching communities that are underserved — rural, newcomer, Indigenous, disabled, low-income — carry more weight.

We weigh

Whether accessibility matters here

Where an inaccessible site would exclude the people the organization exists to serve, this is where our help is worth most.

We weigh

Whether it will be used

Someone on your side who will own it after hand-over. Without that, a free website becomes an abandoned one within a year.

Size is a factor, not a filter

A two-person business and a forty-person charity can both apply. We scope what we do to what the organization needs and what it could reasonably buy for itself — a larger organization might get an accessibility review and a hand-over plan rather than a full build.

How it runs

Four steps, and you can stop after any of them.

  1. 01

    Apply

The form below. Ten minutes, plain language, no business plan required.

  2. 02

    A conversation

Thirty minutes to understand what you need and what would actually help. We will tell you honestly if the answer is no.

  3. 03

    Scoped in writing

What we will build, how many hours it draws from the 1,000, and what you need to provide. Agreed before anything starts.

  4. 04

    Build and hand over

We build it, test it for accessibility, transfer everything to you, and run a session with whoever will maintain it.

Apply

Tell us about your organization.

There is no deadline and no funding round. We assess applications as they arrive and draw from the 1,000 hours until they are used.

  • No fee, no equity, and no obligation to become a client.
  • We reply within two weeks, including when the answer is no.
  • If cost is the barrier, say so plainly — that is the point of the programme.
  • Your details are held under our privacy policy.
What would help most?
A few sentences in your own words. No pitch needed.
Being straightforward here helps rather than hurts. It is how we decide, and nobody is judged for it.
Optional, but it matters — a site with nobody to run it stops working within a year.

We will report against this

Hours delivered are published on this page and in our annual impact report, whether or not we reach 1,000. A commitment nobody checks is a slogan, and we would rather be measured than admired.
